What is ScienceLogic SL1?

The ScienceLogic SL1 platform aims to enable companies to digitally transform themselves by removing the difficulty of managing complex, distributed IT services. SL1 uses patented discovery techniques to find everything in a network, so users get visibility across all technologies and vendors running anywhere in data centers or clouds. The vendor states the advantage of SL1 is that it collects and analyzes millions of data points across an IT universe (made up of infrastructure, network, applications, and business services), to help users make sense of it all, share data, and automate IT processes.

With SL1, the user can:

  • See everything across cloud and distributed architectures. Discover all IT components—–across physical, virtual, and cloud. Collect, merge, and store a variety of data in a clean, normalized data lake.
  • Contextualize data through relationship mapping and machine learning (ML) for actionable insights. Use this context to understand the impact of infrastructure and applications on business service health and risk, accelerate root cause analysis, and execute recommended actions.
  • Act on data that is shared across technologies and IT ecosystem in real time. Apply multi-directional integrations to automate workflows at cloud scale.

I am an SME in HCL Technologies for the ScienceLogic SL1 monitoring tool and have five ScienceLogic SL1 customers in a shared environment. There was scope to manage the entire 60 customers from HCL Tech, but because the scope is limited and not advanced, many customers opted out for ScienceLogic SL1 as a tool. Scope of use cases - each PowerPack should be tested properly for alerting. With the help of the application team, the DB alerts should be tested. They should consult with the DB team and ask what alerting is required and how relevant it is with the PowerPack that ScienceLogic SL1 offers, and accordingly, this should be enhanced.
  • Ping monitoring and polling reports are very good. Customer-first looks for this feasibility and how closely it can monitor that is well defined in ScienceLogic SL1.
  • Collectors' connectivity with SL DB is very stable. We hardly see issues of any connectivity failing. Agentless is far better and easy to handle and use than other tools. The best part is plug and play type.
  • CDM monitoring, it really does well and has wise poll reporting.
  • The dashboard is really awesome. We use and showcase to customers their servers as a whole, and for one server, a lot of details can be checked under the performance graph.
  • Bulk Onboarding/Offboarding is so good in ScienceLogic SL1. Search criteria are matchless. ScienceLogic SL1 has such a beautiful, organized field.
  • Suppression alerts, FS is so well defined, easy and quick to use.
  • ScienceLogic SL1 has improved so much in defining license consumption, which shows license consumed against all items.
  • Log monitoring and event monitoring should be defined and should not be enabled with event ids. We have to create a duplicate Dynamic App if different events ids are to be enabled as per application. More visibility and descriptions should be included in the Log and Event id monitoring description.
  • Database monitoring should be enhanced, and more advanced features should be added, such as replication, DB mirroring, DB Sync, Log Shipping, etc. So far, with the Dynamic app, we can't monitor DB status. The same goes with virtual server addition, we don't get DB status alerts which is deadly required. The same goes for all the DB like Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, and others. Numerous features and capabilities should be there. You may take the example of CA UIM, which has more than 75 parameters to enable against DB. ScienceLogic SL1 is lacking badly in this area.
  • UNIX servers cluster monitoring is not that good, we can only monitor cluster nodes' status, but there are more that can be captured as part of features.
  • TOP 10 processes and services should be captured for CPU and Memory. We don't have such things yet that can be enabled or found in a server.
  • HADR, AS400 are majorly asked for by customers but till now it's not available.
  • Application deep level monitoring is very limited in scope, such as HTTP, DNS, AD, and others.
  • ScienceLogic SL1 reports don't work so well. They need to be worked on it for internal troubleshooting purposes.
  • Hardware, Backup, and Storage monitoring are very limited in scope, which should be increased.
  • Traps based monitoring should be encouraged more from ScienceLogic SL1.
  • Monitoring with advanced features of Active Directory, DNS servers, Exchange servers, etc., should be more in scope.
  • The most important thing, PowerPack, which is in ScienceLogic SL1, should be tested well and should be released only with the consent of the Application/DB team.
  • There should be a team who should work on Community PowerPack so that if the customer wants to make it and use it via general availability should be available.
  • Customer support and follow-up have gone down over the past two years as if they don't bother, which has a negative impact. Customer is big or small. SMEs who work ideally send out messages to other organizations about how good a tool is or how bad its support system is.
  • A quarterly training session should be organized, as in real terms, your ScienceLogic SL1 is driven by SMEs who work on your tool, and many of the wrong impressions are sent due to SMEs' ignorance even if the tool is good.
  • I see the big scope of ScienceLogic SL1 as a monitoring tool provided 10% of ScienceLogic SL1 product is improved. The demand for 10% is so much, and it's not good that it's the main reason your 90% good things are sidelined.
ScienceLogic SL1 is well suited for all the environments, provided what you have in the ScienceLogic SL1 portal should work with taking today's advanced features in mind. ScienceLogic SL1 has great scope for a shared support environment, but customers are not opting in due to its limitations. ScienceLogic SL1 should focus, and thorough discussions should be organized, with SMEs for more to add as part of advanced features.

I use ScienceLogic SL1 at my job at Kyndryl to provide monitoring services of IT infrastructure for clients and customer support teams.
  • SL1 provides monitoring for various databases.
  • SL1 can monitor all popular operating systems.
  • SL1 uses monitoring agents and agentless monitoring.
  • SL1 requires a lot of CPU resources.
  • User Interface is not intuitive.
  • Documentation is poorly organized.
ScienceLogic SL1 is good for cloud monitoring - main vendors are supported, and a lot of modern hardware is supported. There is lack of support of old operating systems and the agents may consume a lot of local resources. The SL1 system scales well and has good manufacturer support and has good price.

We use SL1 predominantly for Event Monitoring and overall health in our different customer environments. One of the business problems that we addressed by using SL1's process monitoring on servers via a custom dashboard, was to identify which application was causing high CPU usage and related processes. We created a custom dashboard that combined all the pieces of the puzzle together in one window, and we could focus our attention on what needed to be done, instead of trying to log onto to each server and see what was causing the problems. Creating dashboards in SL1 is quite easy and when there are issues in any of our customer environments, a dashboard can easily be put together, that highlights certain areas of technology, and this enables us to
  • Event Monitoring
  • Dashboards and creating custom Dashboards
  • Device Discovery
  • More freedom to create custom dashboards as on the previous versions we could do much more
  • The Performance TAB windows is too small and cannot be resized or maximized when looking at reports for "Overview", "File System" and any of those items.
  • There are not enough widgets to create stunning dashboard in AP2
  • The reporting feauture is a very untouched area.
In most of the scenarios I was able to assist users to view info pertaining to there specific case study. In cases where I was unable to help users or customers, it was a lack on our side, and not a problem with the product as we have not implemented all the functionality as I would have liked. SL1 is not a capacity tool, but it can be used to feed information into systems like BMC Truesight to do capacity reporting on.

ScienceLogic SL1 is being used for management and administration of Customer's Infrastructure (Servers and Network Elements).

Apart from Monitoring the Customer Infrastructure, SL1 needs to be integrated to data lake to ensure efficient reporting and limited load to the Monitoring Module. SL1 PowerFlow was used for this integration.

In the existing engagement, expectation was to migrate from old monitoring suite to SL1.

  • Custom Integrations via SL1 PowerFlow
  • Ability to configure Run Book Automations
  • Customize the Dynamic Applications as per requirement
  • Buggy Software. A lot of features which must have worked out of the box were fixed during the course of implementation. This led to a lot of delays in delivery.
  • Limited documentation for Custom Development in SL1 PowerFlow and/or ScienceLogic SL1 Monitoring Suite.
  • Example: There are no best practice recommendations for:
  • Custom Monitoring expected out of Scripts hosted on Agent-Based Systems.
  • Custom Development which would be required for Integrations configuration via SL1 PowerFlow
  • Sluggish Support: After logging a Support Case, it takes too long for resolution / response. Really strange that there's limited tracking despite escalations.
  • Professional Services Subscription
Appropriate if you are setting up a monitoring suite in new Infrastructure Environment.

Definitely NOT suited for Migration Projects. ScienceLogic SL1 cannot cater to a lot of monitoring requirements which already would have been configured in old monitoring suite. Plus, limited support for customizations and having to go to "Feature Requests" route makes in extremely complicated.

We use ScienceLogic SL1 in our organization to serve effective monitoring solutions to our external customers. Our customers depend upon us for critical events/alerts related to their IT infrastructure gears and using SL1, we're able to provide them with a proactive monitoring solution that resolves an issue before an impact is noticed by the customer. There are very few monitoring solutions that can cater to a variety of Cloud platforms like Public Cloud (AWS, Azure) and private cloud simultaneously and SL1 addresses this business problem very well. Not only this, the ease with which the SL1 UI Operates is just commendable and pretty fast with zero to no latency. Being a multi-cloud company, it's important that we serve our customers with fanatical support and SL1 helps us achieve that every day.
  • Monitoring servers
  • Monitoring public cloud appliances
  • Ease of integration with ServiceNow
  • UI with artificial intelligence
  • Reporting
SL1 is best suited for scenarios where we want detailed IT infrastructure monitoring. Scenarios where it is less appropriate would be for basic monitoring like URL, Ping, etc.

Science logic helps our company to provide services to the customers in more easier and relevant ways. We can easily monitor any sort of devices on it in a very unique way. The design scope of a use case can be the enterprise, a specific system or a subsystem. Use cases that are used to describe the business process are typically of scope “enterprise”.
  • It better monitors every single and smallest things for the devices like CPU utilization, Thresholds, Memories etc.
  • Auto-ticketing for the alerts is the best part of it.
  • It helps to build relationship between one parent and many child devices.
  • It should only alert for the device/server which is down, not for all the other devices attached to the same affected devices.
  • Tabs should be in more organized manner instead.
  • Nothing more.
I would have experienced a lot many scenarios and found using Science logic, It makes our life easier to understand everything for the devices that are getting monitored there. we integrated ScienceLogic SL1 to streamline our IT operations. We used its unified monitoring for a clear view of our hybrid IT environment, automating asset discovery which saved significant manual effort. The platform's AI-driven analytics improved our incident response, dependency mapping aided in informed decision-making during migrations, and its capacity planning tools optimized our resource utilization. Overall, SL1 transformed our IT processes, making them more proactive and efficient.

ScienceLogic SL1 is used as our Primary Monitoring Platform, this system replaced out dating Nimsoft platform. the system is very flexible and can be tweaked to our needs / customer requestes for the most part.
  • Grouping of Devices for central management
  • communicates with Service Now very well
  • Easily search customers or devices
  • Dashboards could do with being more "out of the box" friendly
  • I constantly switch bewteen the new AP2 and classic view for different functions
  • different user privileges could do with being more generic or simpler
The fact you are able to spin up some "data collectors" on the VDC / customer environment is great - this means you do not need to logon and install an agent on all the machines

The SL1 appliance is quite comparable to SCOM and other monitoring tools when you get down to the basics of it, what it does better than the others however is that it is much easier to use , visually better and has other tools and capabilities that the others don't. We're using SL1 to monitor almost all of our customer's infrastructure and are currently proceeding with a project to make it 100%. SL1 integrates straight into our Service desk platform so that everything is logged and appropriately assigned to the right teams with the right priorities per our defined rules.
  • Can be used to monitor any customer, anywhere
  • Easy to use
  • Easy to customize with the powerpacks available and can even configure your own
  • More out of the box integrations into popular security tools / Service Desk tools
ScienceLogic, especially in a SaaS like we're using is well suited for almost all scenarios. For the most part you need to have a collector on each customer site but this is not always required and you can bypass this by having VPN's established with customers. SL1 especially exceeds with plugging in straight to Azure and monitoring Azure environments exceptionally well

ScienceLogic SL1 is used within our organization as a tool for Infrastructure monitoring.

As an MSP we required to upgrade our tooling to allow us to properly enable monitoring of a customers infrastructure and alert at the correct levels from a device to a business service impact. Without ScienceLogic SL1 we were only ever able to monitor at a device by device basis and not see the entire overall impact a device outage could have on a business service and the business as a whole. We are also extending the usage of this to start automation of some of the more basic events and alerts so that we can attempt auto remediation & resolution on simple recurring issues. ScienceLogic SL1 has also given us the ability to properly look at root causes as we have more data from the various sources and can look at the events that occurred for those high priority issues in greater depth.
  • Automations
  • Discovery
  • Deep Monitoring of different OS/Network Devices
  • Some of the User interface still requires work
  • Monitoring of non common hardware
I think ScienceLogic SL1 is very good at being able to properly paint a business service overlay picture which gives greater depth of root cause and impact on what an outage will cause to the company.

We provide monitoring/AIOPS based managed services to multiple medium to large enterprises.
The product helps us provide "monitoring as a service" which includes the platform components and the experience and skills required to implement and manage the service. This allows businesses to concentrate their efforts on their core mission
  • Automation & low code/no code collection options.
  • Support for traditional data centers, cloud-native services and hyperscalers.
  • Multi-tenancy.
  • Increase out-of-the-box support for technologies not currently covered.
  • Improve reporting ease of use/customisation
Well suited to just about any scenario ie traditional, hybrid or cloud environments.
Our customers have/do range from state entities, banks, insurers, retailers and various business types.
Whilst we do not have any "small" customers, I would imagine that it may not, due to cost, be suitable for many "small" customers.
Also, more difficult to implement for customers who do not share the vision and goal of AIOPS & monitoring as a service etc.
I would highly recommend the "workshops" (eg Clarity) provided by and/or conducted together with SL.

We use it to monitor our on prem and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS). It escalates callouts to our engineers via PagerDuty and then raises a ticket in hornbill for the incident.
  • It monitors our devices and reports on the detections we have created.
  • monitors web endpoints
  • can handle bespoke complex monitors
  • discovery of devices automatically
  • Most of the things I can think of have now been addressed in this new release.
  • Documentation could be less ambiguous sometimes
  • More active to detecting system alerts and having them sorted before we have need to inform them SAAS
This is well suited for medium to large business and not really needed for small companies.

Used in our own organisation and deployed on customer estates, It provides a uniform way of computer estate monitoring and capacity and asset management,
  • Easy to configure for monitoring devices of the same make and model.
  • Straightforward to develop powerpacks for new or updated devices.
  • Easy to configure for setting alerts on devices and device models.
  • Easy to create dashboards for device or service monitoring.
  • Creating powerpacks from scratch for new devices may be straightforward but will rarely be easy. Rewarding when completed, but not easy.
  • Developer documentation needs a rethink. While the information may be there (it isn't always) it is not easy to find. This is not helped by using different terms for the same things.
  • A developer console/dashboard for monitoring data collection from powerpacks instances without having to switch webpages or have to monitor multiple webpages.
Before starting anything in the dashboards and indeed in the data collection, careful thought, design and planning is essential before starting. All that effort is worthwhile as developing powerpacks and dashboards is then much clearer and straightforward.
1. When we needed to monitor an application that comprised of several devices and network components, it was easy to set this up and, after a little training, easy for the operations team to use it.
2. When we needed to monitor part of a cloud it was not so easy to configure, but once that was done, it was very easy to use for the operations team as it followed the same style as the application monitoring.

SL1 is being used in our organization to manage and support the proactive monitoring of Datacenter devices and applications of the National Railway of Belgium. The scope of SL1 is quite wide as our customer's inventory is spread across 3 huge datacenters (2 on-premise and 1 public cloud). We monitor more than 3000+ servers, 2000+ databases, 200+ Network devices, and 300+ applications. In TCS, we have gone beyond the Out-of-Box monitoring and built our own custom DAs and RBAs to support our customers. The best feature about the tool is its auto-discovery mechanism which has helped us to build an advanced CMDB showing the relationship between hyper-v and VMware host and guest devices and also with underlying databases. Also Sciencelogic has developed several powerpacks with third party tool like ELK, Kubernetes etc which are readily available for use. A few business problems which we have across during implementations were 1. A very limited number of reports and that too very basic and do not comply with industry best practices (like Availability reports do not have a business and not business hour feature and even does not exclude the outages during scheduled maintenance). 2. Every small customization or help required from experts is treated as PS work and PS is very costly. 3. Sciencelogic Support engineers does not support and even does provide any suggestions on issues on customized DA even if the issue is because of the built-in ScienceLogic functions are a lot of internal Dynamic Apps (Like for filesystem, services, processes, availability, etc) where there is no visibility on the logic of how alerts are configured. 4. It is not possible to put only a few metrics (like DB services) in maintenance for a certain period. The entire server has to be put in maintenance mode and due to which even the OS-related alerts get suppressed.
  • Auto-Discovery feature is very good which helps us in building relationships between hyper-v and VMware host and guest devices. Also, it helps in building the relationship with MSSQL Databases.
  • Ability to perform bulk discovery and update in ScienceLogic.
  • Flexibility to clone the Dynamic Applications and do custom modifications.
  • Flexibility to create custom RBA's and do several automations.
  • Also ScienceLogic has come up with several new power packs for integrating with third party tool like ELK, Kubernetes etc which are readily available for use
  • OOB Reports (Availability and Capacity) are not very user-friendly and also do not fetch correct data most of the time or even show blank reports a lot of time. A very limited number of reports and that too very basic and do not comply with industry best practices (like Availability reports do not have a business and not business hour feature and even does not exclude the outages during scheduled maintenance)
  • Dashboards do not have a lot of widgets and are hence are not able to create complex dashboards. There should be the flexibility of adding an additional column on dashboards through Custom attributes.
  • Not possible to put only a few metrics (like DB services) in maintenance for a certain period. The entire server has to be put in maintenance mode and then even OS alerts get suppressed.
  • The audit logs page does not get loaded and gives "504 Gateway Time-out" most of the time
  • Every small customization is treated as PS work and PS is very costly.
  • The SL1 support team does not support and even does provide suggestions on issues on customized DA even if the issue is because of the built-in ScienceLogic functions. There are a lot of internal Dynamic Apps (Like for filesystem, services, processes, availability, etc) where there is no visibility on the logic of how alerts are configured.
Auto-Discovery feature is very good which helps us in building relationships between hyper-v and VMware host and guest devices. Also, it helps in building the relationship with MSSQL Databases. This feature has helped us a lot in building CMDB relationship diagrams. We found SL1 less appropriate when it comes to dashboarding and reporting. Dashboards do not have a lot of widgets and are hence are not able to create complex dashboards. There should be the flexibility of adding additional columns on dashboards through Custom attributes. Out-Of-Box Reports (Availability and Capacity) are not very user-friendly and also do not fetch correct data most of the time or even show blank reports a lot of time. There is a very limited number of reports that are too very basic and do not comply with industry best practices (like Availability reports do not have business and nonbusiness hour features and even do not exclude the outages during scheduled maintenance).

I am just implemented ScienceLogic SL1 as our main monitoring system, and it has been a success so far. We use it to monitor all network devices and servers and have integrated it with Service Now. In my position as an operator, has simplified incidents and correlating alarms from devices.
  • Correlating events
  • Enriching incidents with information
  • Fast reactions to events
  • User interface
ScienceLogic SL1 seems well suited to monitoring large networks like ours, where the correlation of events is important to reduce noise for the operators.

With our cloud-based deployments of ScienceLogic SL1 we have provided a single pane of glass for the cloud environments to be utilized by the application owners to support a spectrum of individual applications. This, alongside the available automation integration of PowerFlow to enrich our CMDB, has enabled us to provide a new level of monitoring capabilities.
  • Business Services are a welcome addition to the capabilities of the SL1 platform
  • Collections capabilities. Being able to ingest multiple forms of data streams to provide a more holistic view of an environment
  • Giving the clients the freedom to apply specific monitoring that is tailored to their environments
  • Ease of deployment of Business Services
  • A simplified view to represent multiple SL1 deployments in one place
For the last ten years, ScienceLogic SL1 has been my go-to recommendation for monitoring platforms. Its ease of learning curve and its out-of-the-box capabilities provide a majority accurate representation of alerting expectations with their eagerness to offer customizable solutions for one-off needs.

ScienceLogic SL1 is being used as a monitoring tool for our managed services and managed hosting customers. It's being used mainly to monitor things such as network equipment, servers, and storage. We have a team of engineers that help to manage ScienceLogic SL1 but it's used across multiple departments in our organization. Our NOC engineers and account managers have varying levels of access to the tool depending on their job function. We have the alerting feature of ScienceLogic SL1 integrated into ServiceNow, which we use for our CMDB and ticketing purposes.
  • Modularization; ability to add monitoring to new technologies via downloadable "power packs"
  • Customization and granularity of alerting
  • Big potential for automating processes for those with developer-like knowledge
  • Reports are confusing and crafting new ones is very tedious
  • Some basic functionality lacking in alerting (ex: cannot keep a dynamic list if one item is removed from it).
  • Web console and menus can be overwhelming for those without training.
ScienceLogic SL1 is a great solution if you're interested in a solution like Nagios that has a lot of features out of the box but is constantly being improved upon with additional technologies being supported on an ongoing basis. You get the support of an enterprise company that usually exceeds that of an open source solution. However, due to the cost of the tool, smaller/less complex environments might be better suited to an open source tool.

We use it to monitor our network devices availability, ports or tunnels flapping, temperature, power and CPU performance and critical factors, rarely internet line performance. We do use to monitor also IPSLA and latency. Integrated with our monitoring system to open and close tickets automatically.
It can gather also chassis and SN info. It has more functions but on a daily job we use part of it
  • Monitor devices availability
  • It lets you set maintenance mode
  • the 2nd version is more readable and intuitive
  • Elaboration power
  • Install and customization support from Australia, very uncomfortable for other tmie zones
  • Newer version accessible only by rewriting the address, it seems to be still in Beta
It is well suited for low IT budget companies, and that are using also other instruments. For big corporations there are software with better gui, more complete like Zabbix (even though Zabbix requires more manpower to customize it and manage it) or with better performance when managing lots of data like during P1 with many devices down

ScienceLogic SL1 replaced a few different monitoring tools for us. We had a homegrown platform for alerting and ticketing, as well as a purchased solution for performance and capacity management. It performs all of these functions well at a very large scale. ScienceLogic's Incident Automation and CMDB Sync enabled us to reduce operations workload actioning tickets by auto resolving tickets when issues clear and auto re-opening tickets when it determines the situation is likely the same root cause.
  • Automation in terms of alert and ticket enrichment with diagnostic details
  • Incident ticket reduction, reducing operations workload
  • Alerting and ticketing
  • Account team is outstanding, very supportive on issues and with feature requests
  • Support is great, especially on the critical issues when you need them
  • ScienceLogic aggressively pursues customer engagement and improvements.
  • Recently added ChatOps and Ideas Boards are examples
  • Dynamic application and Powerpack framework enables quick build and share and as such many community built Powerpacks are available
  • Dashboards have limitations in a couple of large enterprise use cases. New UI appears to be addressing these as it matures and resembles techniques seen in other enterprise tools
  • Percentiles and baseline / deviation calculations on standard metrics are not what we've seen in the past from enterprise tools. However, more complex anomaly detection is now available as an advanced function
ScienceLogic would be a great Nagios replacement for companies who struggle with several Nagios instances due to scalability and lack of discovery, automation and enterprise features.

It could also be great for companies who desire tools consolidation across various IT silos running overlapping alerting, ticketing and graphing tools.

If there is a desire to automate ticket enrichment and/or auto remediation of issues based on monitoring signals, ScienceLogic is an excellent platform.

Large enterprise companies with a focus on complex forecasting and capacity planning may struggle to get exactly what they want out of ScienceLogic.

This is a tool which makes the monitoring services easy and understandable way on a futureproof concept. It is usable on bare metal and on cloud services as well. We can manage the data in real-time and reports can be created on customized desires. To install a system with this tool is required some expertise.
  • Data flow.
  • Manage system.
  • Reporting
  • UI
  • Automatization.
  • Resource consumption.
The logic which was designed is very futureproofed; we can manage different systems in one tool. The sideway is the agent-server sending the data is not too resource effective; I can see some room to evolve. Adding more programming language support would be a big plus to make help less specialized staff.

We are using ScienceLogic as a monitoring tool. We are monitoring various servers like windows, Linux, Unix, AIX, Vcenter, ESXi, and DB like oracle and MSQL. Initially, we faced several challenges in monitoring the servers. After migrating our servers to SL1, it is easy to understand, and UI is very convenient to use. SL1 is user-friendly.
  • Email notification alert.
  • Reporting
  • Dashboards
  • Performance
  • In some cases, there might be some spike in CPU or Memory. Even though we receive an alert for it but we are unable to find which process consumes more CPU or Memory. We need that process details as well in the tool.
  • SQL monitoring for non domain servers.
  • More manuals on storage devices monitoring.
Really good system; I recommend it as you can monitor plenty of devices from different vendors. It is suited to monitor devices from different vendors. Strong monitoring and reporting features along with the integrations like ServiceNow. All-in on one solution for monitoring IT assets. Its simplified UI components navigate the product in a very easy-to-use manner.
